Previewing the Democratic National Convention
The Democratic National Convetion begins today in Charlotte, N.C.. President Obama is not due to address delegates until Thursday, but we have the following to look forward to today:
In the 00:00 BST hour:
- President Jimmy Carter, via pre-recorded video
- Joe Kennedy III, next member of the Kennedy dynasty and candidate for the US House of Representatives, Massachusetts
In the 02:00 BST hour:
- Rahm Emanuel, Mayor of Chicago and former White House Chief of Staff to President Obama
- Lilly Ledbetter, Women’s equality leader and namesake of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act
In the 03:00 BST hour:
- Martin O’Malley, Governor of Maryland and potential presidential candidate in 2016
- Julián Castro, Mayor of San Antonio, keynote speaker, and rising star within the party
- Michelle Obama, First Lady of the United States
Speakers to come later in the week include Elizabeth Warren, Barney Frank, Sandra Fluke, Caroline Kennedy, Eva Longoria, Charlie Crist, John Kerry, President Clinton, Vice President Biden, and President Obama.
