The most tender and touching moment of the Democratic National Convention was Rep. Gabriel Giffords leading the Pledge of Allegiance, aided by Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz. In January 2011, Giffords survived an assassination attempt at a public event in Tuscon, Ariz., suffering a gunshot wound to the head, and resigned from her congressional seat earlier this year in order to concentrate on her recovery.
