THE WEEK THAT WAS (15-19/10-2012)

This week: I argued that the European Union deserved its Nobel Peace Prize, and I went on HuffPost Live to emphasise that point while noting too that Europe still has much to do by way of eradicating anti-Semitism. Also: I discussed why the Man Booker Prize is more essential than ever in the internet age; I thought Mitt Romney got a certain part of his anatomy handed to him on a plate in the second debate; and I made it clear that the law must not permit religious exemptions to equality law.

Newsweek is to cease publication, in print format at any rate — news I was terribly saddened by. Buzzfeed compiled a selection of covers from down the years, which just about says it all really. Elsewhere, I reblogged a charming picture of three great writers in Uruguay, and Carly Simon sang “Coming Around Again”.
